Integrative Teaching in MAPEH

-

PATRICK L. ACADEMIA A n Integrated Approach in teaching as defined by Pigdon and Wooley in 1992 is an approach which allows learners to explore, gather, process, refine and present the topics that they want to investigate.

This strategy allows the learners to develop their skills on a particular theme relevant to the learners. Likewise, it provides an opportunity for the learners to learn more. It is a well organized strategy which is anchored to real life situation.

In teaching MAPEH this is an effective strategy because of its objectives as it was elaborated in the article written by Dr. Romeo T. Daligdez, Ed.D., from Bicol State University thus it makes learning more meaningful, worthwhile and integrative. More so, it fosters security and satisfaction, provides creativity; develop sense of values, self direction and provides opportunity for sound action and help evaluate learning. It also alleviates fragmentation of learning and isolated skill instruction since it provides interesting instruction which is more relevant to students.

Since MAPEH subject has four components this strategy can really address what the learners need to develop. When engaging learners to physical activities like in P.E., this method helps the learners to enhance their skills when the teacher employs cooperative learning.

The advent of K to 12 implementation paved the way for us teachers to employ various teaching strategies so that our learners will be equipped with skills that they can use as they prepare themselves in the field of work or in the arena of their chosen endeavors.
