Chief Inspector German Pascua II, this town’s chief of police, said that residents of Barangay San Nicolas reported that an unidentified body was seen floating at the Pampanga River around 3:00 pm Monday.

During the investigation, the fatality was identified as Aeron Manuyag, 19, a resident of nearby San Luis town, who was reported missing since September 10.

Pascua said that Manuyag is not considered a victim of Typhoon Maring since he was declared missing before it made landfall in the province.

"Based sa investigation, before pa bumagyo nalunod na siya. Siguro nung kasagsagan ng bagyo, inanod 'yung katawan kaya dito natagpuan," he said.

He stressed that according to the victim’s family, Manuyag went to a friend’s birthday party in San Simon on Sunday evening and was never seen until police told them of the incident.

It was then learned that Manuyag tried to go home before midnight by swimming across the Pampanga River, but drowned himself due to drunkenness.

“Ang sabi ng mga kaibigan, wala na daw ‘yung bangka na namamasada kaya lumangoy na lang. Sanay naman daw ‘yung bata kaso lasing kaya baka nadisgrasya,”Pascua said.

However, Pascua added that other witnesses accounts' revealed that Manuyag’s first attempt to swim home was successful but still went back which caused his untimely death.

“Nakalampas na daw nung una, kaya lang bumalik pa daw. Siguro doon di na siya nakaabot,” he disclosed.

Pascua said the victim’s body is now interred in their home in San Luis town.
