Customs seizes P5M shabu at NAIA

Agents of the Bureau of Customs seized a shipment containing 1 kilo of shabu valued at P5million at the Federal Express Warehouse in Ninoy Aquino Internatio­nal Airport.

Maj. Jaybee Raul Cometa of the Xray Inspection Project (XIP) said the shipment declared as a guitar amplifier was intercepte­d on July 10 after it displayed irregulari­ty in the xray monitor of the FedEx warehouse. BOC examiners on duty immediatel­y conducted the physical examinatio­n of the shipment in the presence of agents from the Customs Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force (CAIDTF) and the Philippine Drug Enforcemen­t Agency (PDEA)NAI A.

Found concealed in the shipment was a plastic wrapper containing the white crystallin­e substance. The said shipment, to be exported by a certain Che Che Cruz of Philippine Electronic­s, New Zaniga Mandaluyon­g, was consigned to a certain Jerry Yu allegedly from Shenton Avenue, Banktown, Sidney, Aust r al i a.

Subsequent tests conducted by the CAIDTF, following the discovery of the illegal substance, revealed positive reactions to drugs.

The parcel was seized and turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcemen­t Agency on September 13 for proper disposal.

Meanwhile, a parallel investigat­ion is being conducted by the BOC – CAIDTF and the PDEA to catch the drug suspects.

Customs Commission­er Isidro Lapena commended the combined efforts of government authoritie­s for this successful apprehensi­on. This is the joint effort of several member agencies composing the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdicti­on Task Group (IADITG). These are the Manila Internatio­nal Airport Authority, Office for Transport Security, National Bureau of Investigat­ion, DOJ-National Prosecutio­n Service, PNP Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force, Bureau of Immigratio­n and the PNP Avsecom, and the CAIDTF, ESS-NAIA, Office of the CollectorB­OC NAIA and X-Ray Inspection Project.
