Philippine­s condemns latest London attack

THE Philippine government “strongly condemned” the latest terror attack at Parsons Green undergroun­d station in south-west London that injured at least 29 people, Malacañang said on Sat ur day.

Presidenti­al Spokespers­on Ernesto Abella said the Duterte administra­tion extended its sympathies to the victims of the blast during Friday’s morning rush hour at Parsons Green station on a District Line train from Wimbledon.

“We strongly condemn the latest terrorist attack near the Parsons Green station in Southwest London that left scores of people injured,” Abella said in a statement.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of the blast as we wish them a speedy recovery,” he added.

Jihadist militant group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (Isis) reportedly claimed responsibi­lity for the explosion of improvised explosive device (IED), which left 29 passengers injured and treated in hospi t al .

Isis’official Amaq News Agency said that a unit affiliated to the group was responsibl­e for the bombing of IED.

This was the fourth time London has to a terror attack this year.

Abella said the Philippine Embassy in London was closely monitoring the situation in the United Kingdom.

“Our embassy officials and staff have advised the members of the Filipino community to remain calm yet vigilant even as there are no reports of Filipinos injured in the explosion,” he said. (Ruth Abbey Gita/ SunStar Philippine­s) fallen victim
