BACOLOR— Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVTSU) students were all shouts yesterday as NLEx road Warriors coach Joseller “Yeng” Guiao and some of the players of his team led the opening of the state university’s 2017 intramurals at the Bacolor Campus here.

Guiao took time off from his busy schedule to deliver the opening remarks in the said event. Guiao said that the intramural games and sporting activities in schools, colleges and universities contribute in the development of young people who will eventually lead a career in professional sports.

“I hope to see someday that the next PBA players will come from DHVTSU,” Guiao said, which was met with cheers by an obviously pro-basketball audience.

Guiao is coaching the NLEX Road Warriors of the Philippine Basketball Association. He also served as former head coach of the Philippine national basketball team. He also served as Philippine Basketball League commissioner from 1997 to 2000.

He was also former vice-governor for nine years and served as First District Representative of Pampanga from 2013 to 2016.

Guiao had photos taken with eager fans who asked for selfies.

DHVTSU President Enrique Baking thanked Guiao for taking time to visit the state university. He added that sports events are within the core of the extracurricular programs of the school stressing that it is an opportunity to enhance camaraderie and renewed interest in sports. The event was also the first time that DHVTSU’s campuses from all across Pampanga participated in the event.

DHVTSU has expanded into campuses in Sto. Tomas, Porac and Mexico towns. The Lubao campus is also nearing completion.
