Pampanga police ready for ‘National Day of Protest’

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Police in the province are all geared-up for the expected rallies and protests to be staged by militants today in line with the commemorat­ion of the Martial Law.

This was assured by Pampanga Provincial Police Director Senior Superinten­dent Joel Consulta, saying all troops were alerted after President Rodrigo Duterte declared September 21 as National Day of Pr ot est .

“May mga contingenc­ies ang Pampanga police na nakaready to react if ever may mga rallies and protests na mangyari, which is expected naman namin na mangyayari,” he said.

All chiefs of police were also alerted to monitor their respective jurisdicti­ons and assure peace and order while protests are ongoing, Consulta added.

He stressed that the whole Pampanga police office will be on alert today to ensure that no undesired events will happen during the course of the rallies.

“Expected naman na malawakan protesta ang mga gagawin bubukas, lalo na ng mga militants. Pero ang hinihingi lang namin, ‘yung mapayapang rally lang para walang masaktan o masugatan pa,” he said.

The National Day of Protest was declared by President Duterte yesterday, September 21, as many protesters are expected to commemorat­e the 45th anniversar­y of Martial Law.

President Duterte suspended work in government executive branches and local government units as well as classes in public schools, including state universiti­es and colleges.
