UA’s advocacy featured in Michigan publication

The University of the Assumption (UA) and its environmental protection advocacy was featured in the summer of 2017 issue of “Voices in Mission and Ministry” by the Adrian Dominican Sisters of Michigan USA. Voices is published annually by the congregation in print and electronic media.

Entitled “UA Care for Creation”, Voices took note of the significance of the program in helping the UA community respond to the challenges of Pope Francis in his encyclical Laudato Si .

Being an archdiocesan catholic university, the environmental activities in UA, spearheaded by the Community Extension Office (CEO) and participated by students and employees, are anchored on the encyclical letter.

Sister Marissa Figueroa, director of CEO, said that the University had always been involved in doing efforts for the protection and care for creation.

“One of our aims is to manage and preserve our resources. We need to create more programs and involved more students to act for the improvement of our environment and the creation,” she said.

Figueroa also added that it was overwhelming that the University’s advocacies were recognized in the Michigan publication.

“What is good about it is that we can share our mission not only to the community but also to other people in different places,” she noted.

The University, through UA-CEO continues to do programs for the development of the school and the community including outreach programs, Sunday school, cleanup drives, and other activities.
