A STRATEGIC INTERVENTION MATERIAL IN MATHEMATICS 10
MAILYN Q.FELICIANO
This Strategic Intervention Materials (SIM) involved fifty (50) learners from five different sections in grade 10 in Dapdap High School, Dapdap, Bamban, Tarlac in S.Y. 2016- 2017.
The Strategic Intervention Materials (SIM) sought to enhance the mastery of the learners in understanding the basic concepts and techniques in graphing polynomial functions as used in a real life living. It also aimed boost the performance of the learners in determining the hand behavior, sketching the graph of polynomial functions and relating and applying it in a real life situations.
In evaluating the performance of the target subject, a per-test was administered. Then, the researcher exposed them to the SIM Worksheets on integrating technology with open/ guided discussion. After completing the objectives of the said intervention within a month a post- test which is parallel to the pretest was given to them. From what material it was made of: Printed Copies
Uses:
1. Serve as intervention for the least mastered learning competencies of the learners
2. Enhance and improve computing and sketching the graph of the learners 3. Use as remediation material
How to make the Instructional Material:
1. Identify the least learning competency for the least learned learners 2. Planning
3. Create a Strategic Intervention Material (SIM) that will catch the attention of learners by making it simple and creative.
Summary:
The use of Strategic Intervention Material (SIM) Worksheets was employed as the main tool in gathering pertinent information on the effect of Strategic Intervention Material on student performance in Math 10. The data gathered from the pre-test and post test was tallied, classified, tabulated and analyzed according to the problems of the study.
The researcher based the result of the target learner’s pre-test and post test mean scores using t-test to answer the if Strategic Intervention Material (SIM) can affect the performance of the learners in calculating and sketching the graph of polynomial functions and relation of it in real life situation.
The mastery of the learner in calculating and sketching the graph of polynomial functions is Highly Satisfactory. However, it is satisfactory in finding the intercepts of the graph. The level of performance of the student after completing the SIM in terms in mastery is good. The result of the pre-test and the post test mean scores shows that there is significant difference in the performance of the learners after conducting the SIM.
The researcher concluded that the exposure of learners to Strategic Intervention Material (SIM) improved the knowledge and skills performance of learners. Quality instructional materials and genuine tasks are necessary to facilitate the development of knowledge, skills and value standard.
