THE HEART OF TEACHING

-

RENATO M. LIWANAG

Love is the most powerful emotion a human being can experience while passion is an intense emotion, a compelling enthusiasm or desire for something. At present classroom setting is very different from the past. It is very challenging nowadays which will need both love and passion. Virtues that we need to provide a heart for teaching.

If you will combine love and passion they will give the best meaning of teaching today. Teaching is considered a noble profession. There is a saying “You can give without loving, but you can never love without giving.” To Robert Louis Stevenson, giving is part of how we show love. We give of ourselves, our time, our talents, our treasures and even our blood as a way of helping, protecting and nurturing that which we love. On the other hand, teachers with passion inspire students. They get students interested and even excited about what they are learning.

In classroom setting, teachers are educators to their students who impart knowledge to them. However, if you will look at the responsibilities of teachers, they are considered second parents, guidance counsellors, friends, playmates, doctors, nurses, and of course food attendants. That is why teachers need to have big hearts wherein serving with passion and love is shown to their students. These are the most important qualities that all teachers should have. Teachers should be passionate with their work love teaching. Teachers who do not enjoy and love their job cannot be effective at all.
