Angeles LGU awards gender-sensitive and responsive barangays, personnel

ANGELES CITY- The local government here through the Gender and Development (GAD) Office recognized various gender-sensitive and gender-responsive villages in the city during a ceremony held December 18 at Robinsons Place Angeles.

The 2017 Search for Most Outstanding Gender-Sensitive and GenderResponsive Barangay and Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) Desk Personnel aims to enforce gender-responsive local governance in the city especially at the barangay level.

According to GAD Officer Purita David, the purpose of the competition is to recognize best practices, excellence and innovation at the barangay level making gender-responsive governance in the city effective and efficient.

During the ceremony, the GAD officer named ten most gender-sensitive and responsive villages in the city which included Balibago (winner), Pulungbulu, Salapungan, Pandan, Claro M. Recto, Tabun, San Jose, Pulung Maragul, Pampang and Pulung Cacutud.

The top ten outstanding VAWC Desk personnel include Fe Macayanan of Pulungbulu (winner), Julita Panaligan of Balibago, Arlenes Jalmasco of San Jose, Flordeliza Pineda of Margot, Derline Valentin of Salapungan, Vilma Bamba of Claro M. Recto,

Marivic Dela Vega of Pandan, Luzviminda Calaunan of Pulung Maragul, Presentacion Recabar of Tabun, and Gloria Meneses of Sto. Cristo.

A dance competition dubbed Women’s Convergence also showcased the talent of various barangay-based women organizations and desk personnel.

Winning the said competition are Barangay Cutcut, San Nicolas, and Sto. Domingo.

For his part, Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan lauded the efforts of the GAD office in taking the forefront in continuously cultivating the culture of gender equality in the city.

The mayor also hopes to have more projects and programs in the future that will support and benefit not only the women of Angeles City but the community as a whole.

Pamintuan also urged all barangays in the city to document their anti-VAWC initiatives on GAD programs and share their experiences and best practices with other villages.— AC-CIO
