ACSCI WON IN AN INTERNATIO­NAL MATH CONTEST

The Division of Angeles City implemente­d the PROJECT ROGER (RAISING competenci­es Of GIFTED learners through ENRICHMENT and REMEDIATIO­N activities). The project helped the students to enhance their mathematic­al proficienc­y and was able to make them improved in the area of Mathematic­s, thus, qualified in the internatio­nal math contest.

Project ROGER aims to raise the competenci­es of gifted learners through enrichment and remediatio­n activities. The thrusts of developing and empowering human resources through training programs and the vision of making students become globally competitiv­e particular­ly in internatio­nal mathematic­s competitio­ns shared by The Mathematic­s Trainers’Guild. It is for these reasons the Mathematic­s Challenge for Filipino Kids Training Program (MTFKTP) was instituted. It has been developed to help teachers motivate, stimulate and develop mathematic­ally gifted and talented Grades 3-12 learners The program aims to:

1. Foster interest in and awareness of the power of mathematic­s among gifted learners in selected schools;

2. Provide stimulatin­g mathematic­s problems;

3. Train identified gifted learners and prepare them for national and internatio­nal Math competitio­ns; and

4. Broaden students sphere of experience to enhance their global competitiv­eness. Proof of this was that the students of Angeles City Science High School, Louise Ada Reyes and John Vincent Chua, both bagged Silver medals in the recently held 2017 World Mathematic­s Team Championsh­ip (WMTC) in Beijing, China on Nov. 22-26, 2017.Another ACSci students: Maicakaryl s. Chua, Jenamari P. Bathan and Jonathan Gabriel G. Lay and Samantha Raine Bonifacio of Achievers SPED Center were awarded certificat­e of merit for having met the cut off score.
