ABM: WHAT IT TAKES?
BETHEL GRACE M. GUIAO
As the Philippine educational system underwent a major curriculum shift from the 10-year basic education cycle to the K to 12 Curriculum, it should be remembered that the additional two years added to students as Senior High School are aimed at equipping them for college, for life, and to make them responsive for work.
One of the tracks introduced by the K to 12 program of the Department of Education is the Academic track offering different strands one in specific is the Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) Strand. Under this strand, subjects like Organization and Management, Business Entrepreneurship, Applied Economics, Business Ethics and Social Responsibility, Accountancy, Business Math, Finance and Principles of Marketing, will be introduced to students, thereby training them to think big and see the bigger picture of what really happens in the real world.
As the country’s economic activities grow and expand, students must be fully equipped in terms of knowledge and skills to be able to compete with the global market. The Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) strand opens doors of opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs, managers and accountants. One may be asking, what does it take to be an ABM student? To burn the midnight oil is almost optional than a must to most students nowadays, however, patience and perseverance are two of the non-negotiable. The right preparation for college will assist in developing critical thinkers that are responsive and accountable individuals.
While business industries provide opportunities for our future graduates, preparing for it require strength of character and precise skill. It is in this way that the Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) Strand of the Academic Track of Senior High School (SHS) will play an important role in training future leaders of the corporate world.
