HOW SOCIAL MEDIA AFFECTS STUDENTS’ LIVES POSITIVELY

Most people prefer using the social media to make new friend, stay connected with friends and many other reasons that satisfy man’s social needs. As the birth of the cyber world, connection between people was simplified through the networks which are internet generated. People using the social media network are now called global citizens because they now can easily share knowledge, ideas and opinions worldwide.

According to many studies conducted in the United States, the impact of social media among the youth is greater compared to adults. In terms of education, students can now communicat­e and share thoughts through the various social media websites such as Facebook or Twitter regardless of distance. The following are the significan­t positive effects of social media on the lives of the students:

a. Learning Exposure – In any student’s life, learning is a necessity. That is why the social media creates an alternativ­e avenue for students to collaborat­e and share knowledge and ideas that sharpen their minds. Learning through interactio­n has now became easier and global through the social media.

b. Extension of Freedom – The social media serves as a platform for more freedom to the youth. Through social media, students can now socialize with anybody from anywhere. They can now make new friends and give comments on the lives of others. Some can even create their own identities as they socialize. These things give thrilling sensations to the youth considerin­g their social wants and needs.

c. Being Innovative – Studies have shown that students who frequently use social media networks show great memories. This is primarily due to the exposure to varied ideas and thoughts they come to encounter as they interact with different people through the networking sites. Their thinking capacity improves and later on leads them to creating great minds. The students on their own can initiate and run their own projects efficientl­y with the help of social media.
