Mocha’s gaffe on Mayon goes viral
IMAGES of the active Mayon Volcano in various areas around the world are circulating in social media as netizens were quick to pounce on a statement of a Palace official citing the volcano as being located in Naga City in Camarines Sur.
The volcano, which has been spewing lava fountains and ash clouds, is located in Legazpi City, Albay. Naga and Legazpi cities are 2 hours and 51 minutes apart by car.
Facebook user Alveen Alamo Osma’s post already generated 13,393 shares as of 3:46 p.m. Thursday, 12 hours since he posted it. Osma’s Facebook status said “Since umalis din lang nman ang Mayon at nasa Naga na pala, lubusin na natin ang lakwatsa nya” with the hashtags #MayonAdventure and # MayonWorldTour.
It has generated more than 8,900 comments on Facebook and counti ng.
Comedienne Ethel Booba, who has 1.13 million followers on Twitter and has been dubbed the “Queen of Twitter”for her dead pan jokes, tweeted: “Sa sobrang gulo ng Pilipinas yung mga lupain natin naglilipatan na. Spratlys lumipat na sa China sunod yung Bulkang Mayon pumunta na sa Naga. Charot!
The tweet has been shared more than 2,100 and more than 9,000 likes and 148 comments since it was posted 7 hours ago, Thursday, January 25. These was followed by another tweet which says: “Kasalanan ko 'to. Kagustuhang magchill ayon nag Chowking ang Mayon Volcano sa SM Naga. Charot! Kasalanan ko 'to. Kagustuhang magchill ayon nag Chowking ang Mayon Volcano sa SM Naga. Char ot !
Actor Enchong Dee, who is from Naga City, posted on Twitter: “Makauwi nga sa probinsya ko... balita ko may bago kaming bulkan..” Dee’s post already generated more than 1,800 shares and 11,000 likes and 475 comments, as of 4:01 p.m. Thursday.
Twitter u ser Mitchondria likened the viral gaffe to the Filipino tradition of "Bayanihan" where people in the community will carry a house from one place to another.
