Bulacan resettleme­nt residents receive livelihood kits from DTI

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO— Residents of St. Martha Heights in Bocaue, Bulacan recently received livelihood starter kits from the Department of Trade and Industry Region III (DTI3) on January 24, 2018 as part of the agency’s Livelihood Seeding Program (LSP). A total of 194 families, who are resettlers from the North Rail project, received the kits in ceremonies held at the covered court of St. Martha Heights.

Bocaue Municipal Mayor Eleanor J. Villanueva-Tugna and DTI-3 Regional Director Judith P. Angeles led the distributi­on of livelihood kits for the second

batch of beneficiar­ies of the LSP. Flordelina Rasdas, livelihood supervisor of the National Housing Authority also witnessed the event.

DTI Bulacan Provincial Director Zorina D. Aldana said that the livelihood starter kits contain consumer products and equipment which the beneficiar­ies can use to start or enhance their livelihood in the resettleme­nt area. The kits are grouped into five kinds of packages, namely, Sari-sari store kit, Bigasan kit, School Supplies, Frozen Products and Merienda Package. Each package contains at least P5,000 worth of products which can be used for their livelihood. The beneficiar­ies were also trained on entreprene­urship, pricing and costing, and basic bookkeepin­g before they were given the livelihood kits.

The St. Martha community is one of the nine beneficiar­y communitie­s in Bulacan of the Livelihood Seeding Program of the DTI. A total of 1,506 families are being targeted for assistance for the second batch of beneficiar­ies.

Angeles noted the discipline of the LSP beneficiar­ies during the distributi­on of the goods. She said that the starter kits will help in providing alternativ­e livelihood in the resettleme­nt communitie­s and will boost the local economy.—
