Bulacan resettlement residents receive livelihood kits from DTI
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO— Residents of St. Martha Heights in Bocaue, Bulacan recently received livelihood starter kits from the Department of Trade and Industry Region III (DTI3) on January 24, 2018 as part of the agency’s Livelihood Seeding Program (LSP). A total of 194 families, who are resettlers from the North Rail project, received the kits in ceremonies held at the covered court of St. Martha Heights.
Bocaue Municipal Mayor Eleanor J. Villanueva-Tugna and DTI-3 Regional Director Judith P. Angeles led the distribution of livelihood kits for the second
batch of beneficiaries of the LSP. Flordelina Rasdas, livelihood supervisor of the National Housing Authority also witnessed the event.
DTI Bulacan Provincial Director Zorina D. Aldana said that the livelihood starter kits contain consumer products and equipment which the beneficiaries can use to start or enhance their livelihood in the resettlement area. The kits are grouped into five kinds of packages, namely, Sari-sari store kit, Bigasan kit, School Supplies, Frozen Products and Merienda Package. Each package contains at least P5,000 worth of products which can be used for their livelihood. The beneficiaries were also trained on entrepreneurship, pricing and costing, and basic bookkeeping before they were given the livelihood kits.
The St. Martha community is one of the nine beneficiary communities in Bulacan of the Livelihood Seeding Program of the DTI. A total of 1,506 families are being targeted for assistance for the second batch of beneficiaries.
Angeles noted the discipline of the LSP beneficiaries during the distribution of the goods. She said that the starter kits will help in providing alternative livelihood in the resettlement communities and will boost the local economy.—
