After his controversial transfer from ABS-CBN to GMA network, how is Atom Araullo’s stay with the kapuso

-

“Nasa proseso pa rin. It takes a while for me to get settled. It’s just my personality but it’s just a matter of time.”

However, the 35-year-old news reporter is happy that he has been able to do various shows with his new network in a span of a few months.

“Certainly, my first few months with GMA have been very productive. I’ve been working with great people also. I just look forward to doing more documentaries and st or i es.”

Atom is now hosting GMA’s newest travel show titled “Adventure Your Way” which will air on cable channel AXN. According to Atom, there was no conflict when it comes to him working with a cable channel, even if the Kapuso network also has its own travel sh o w s.

“I’m very happy that they’ve given me this freedom. That’s one of the things that I really like working with GMA and be open to these arrangements and also allowed me to explore work outside of the network.

I think there’s enough room for a lot of travel shows. People love travel shows, they can watch 10 or 11 if they want. They don’t have to choose and you know, I think, it benefits both myself and also the network to have talents and employees that can do a range of things because I’m also able to develop my skill set and also reach a wider audience which are all good things for the network, I hope.”

How has his career changed after transferring to Channel 7?

Atom answered, “It’s basically the same work. It’s just a little different, just try to tweak it a little bit. Again, very thankful to ABSCBN which has been my home for more than ten years and I did a lot of good documentaries there as well, people seem to forget that. I was a reporter for 10 years, I also did documentaries for Channel 2 which were received very positively by an audience. I guess it’s just another stage of my career. Obviously, these two networks do things differently and I just felt like I needed something a different challenge and it kind of fits well with my current plans as well.”

Atom was personally handpicked by the makers of Adventures Your Way to host their TV program. According to him, it was a breath of fresh air doing this show, which veers away from the usual things he does on TV.

“Absolutely. It’s different, it’s less serious, but no less engaging I hope. I am interested in many different stories. Some are very serious, some are less so. This is just another facet of my personality, I’m just a guy who likes to travel as well and I hope people will enjoy the journey with me.”

To recall his days in the kiddie magazine program 5 & Up, where he served as a host during the show’s run from 1992 to 2002.

He said, “Alam mo, I really feel like an accidental host. Even when doing 5 & Up, I didn’t really think of it as hosting.

“Obviously, I was a kid. I just felt like I was being myself in front of the camera and I think that’s the biggest lesson for anyone who wants to host a program or want to be a host. There are skills, for sure, that you have to learn along the way, but the most important thing is just to be yourself, be sincere, and just allow yourself, to your personality to shine through. I feel the same way with this program. Of course, I have to be able to guide the audience in a way, try to move them in certain directions but ultimately, people just want to be along for the ride and I just happen to be the person who’s there that they can hopefully relate to and live their life.”
