EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP IN THE SPIRITUAL WAY

-

RUBIROSA D. PARUNGAO

This pertains to the importance of spirituality in leadership. As a teacher and as a Catholic. I strongly believe that in order to become an effective and efficient leader, one must have a strong spiritual literacy to embrace his true self and to be able to differentiate moral from his other decisions ( Lowen, 1997 Fullan, 2003).

Spiritual literacy is the ability to read the signs written in the text of our experiences to be able to make sound and humanitarian decisions for good of his people: he thinks less of himself and more of his people.

A nation with no spiritual literacy seems to be very dangerous because this means that people do not have access to open the doors their souls.

They become less aware of their value as a person, likewise the give less value to the people around them. In addition, being spiritually literate can lead to increased feelings of purposelessness, disconnection, isolation and loneliness in the world (Moore,1994).

This explains the reason in the increased of suicide cases all over the world. It is very alarming to know that even the most successful people cannot find inner peace and true happiness simple because the lack spirituality in their lives. The fail to connect with themselves and they feel lonely despite the glamour of power and success in their hands.

Educational leaders in our country must strive to promote spiritual literacy in schools to develop students who will be the next leaders of our country. — oOo—
