One of the Key Result Areas (KRA) of the Office Performance Commitment and Review Form of the Results-Based Performance Management System (RPMS) is human resource management. Therefore, all school heads are required to conduct in-service training to the teachers under their special care. The general objectives of this activity is to empower teachers to effectively perform their teaching performance and improve learning outcomes. The following are some tips in conducting successful in-service training.

Tip # 1: An orientation should be conducted on the proper accomplishment of the National Competency-Based Standards for teachers. The teachers will be required to submit their accomplished form for consolidation. Make sure that the responses of the teachers are true and correct based on their performance.

Tip #2: Based on the consolidated responses, identify the weakest domain. From the weakest domain get the weakest indicator. In the same manner the strengths can now be identified. The first three weakest indicators will serve as the bases for developing the in-service training progr am.

Tip # 3: In case the identified weakness was already addressed in the previous trainings, the school head should device a training needs assessment tool. These can be done by asking the individual teachers on their training needs which was not mentioned in the TSNA. A list of identified training needs should be consolidated.

Tip # 4: Identify the appropriate topic based on the identified weakness on the NCBTS or self-made Teachers Needs Assessment.

Tip # 5: Prepare the required document for the approval of the inservice training. These are the following; Training Proposal, Training Design/ Matrix, and School Memorandum.

Tip # 6: Identify the teachers who are performing better in a specific domain/ indicators. These teachers will serve as the resource person during the training. In case none of them is qualified, the school head should do the task or he/ she can invite resource speaker who in authority.

Tip # 7: Allocate funds for the provision of training materials and food for the participants. These should be based on the prepared school operating budget.

Tip # 8: During the implementation of the in-service training program make sure that the plan of activities are properly executed. Proper documentation should be done to capture all the important details for monitoring and evaluation. Likewise, attendance should be monitored at all t i m es.

Tip # 9: In case there are workshops and outputs requirement, all participants are mandated to submit output/ outcome for presentation and validation.

Tip # 10: Gather feedbacks on the competencies learned by the teachers during the training by conducting regular classroom observations.

Tip # 11: Finally, monitor pupils’performance by comparing previous to the present test results. This will serve as basis for instructional intervention. — oOo—
