Livestock raisers attend DA biosecurity meeting
Bulacan has almost 200 semi-commercial and commercial piggery and poultry farms.
In his welcome message, Bulacan Governor Wilhelmino M. SyAlvarado metioned that the province supplies more than 60 percent of Metro Manila’s livestock demand.
“Malaki ang bahagi ng industriya ng paghahayupan dito sa Bulacan. Kaya napakahalaga ng mga talakayan ngayong araw to ensure efficient biosecurity measures for proper information dissemination in order to prevent such diseases, SyAlvarado said.
DA Central Luzon OIC Regional Executive Director Engr. Roy M. Abaya recognized the initiative of the provincial government of Bulacan in organizing such event.
“Ang Bulacan sa pamumuno ni Governor SyAlvarado ay mabilis ang nanging aksyon sa pagoorganisa sa pagpupulong na ito. I will also instruct other provinces to conduct this same activity.”
Abaya also highlighted that Central Luzon tops as a major producer of poultry, chicken meat, duck meat and supplies 40% of the country needs. Meanwhile, the region ranked second and supply 20 percent of chicken eggs in the entire Philippines .

DA Undersecretary of Operations Engr. Ariel T. Cayanan, who served as the Guest Speaker, lauds Bulacan’s contribution to the national agriculture sector and recognized the vital role of the livestock industry in the country.

The Undersecretary also quoted what President Rodrigo R. Duterte said, “it is my moral obligation to provide available and affordable food for my people.” And call for unity for the progress of the agriculture sector.

Among the topics discussed were: Requirements of Farm Accreditation and Shipping of Poultry By-Products presented by Veterinarian II, Animal Health and Welfare Division of Bureau of Animal Industry Dr. Anthony Bucad and Biosecurity in Poultry Farms presented by OIC Executive Director Bureau of Animal Industry Dr. Ronnie D. Domingo.
The activity was organized by the Provincial Government of Bulacan in coordination with the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) and Department of Agriculture Central Luzon.
