HAU-SAS launches ‘Sea of Discord’ book

While a pervading issue continues to disturb the waters of the West Philippine Sea, the Holy Angel University School of Arts and Sciences (HAU-SAS) formally presented to the reading public the novel “Sea of discord” by holding a book launching event at the Casa Nena.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Edmond M. Maniago, SAS Dean, narrated the challenges that the novel had gone through before it finally got published and encouraged the SAS family to undertake creative pursuits which he will fully support.

Tasked to give a review of the novel, Dr. Venancio L. Mendiola, the iconic professor of the Philippine Normal University, highlighted the literary qualities of the novel as well as the historical, cultural, sociological, philosophical and psychological underpinnings that it reflects.

Giving more significance to the event was the inspirational message of Dr. Alma S. Espartines, the VP for Academic Affairs. In her speech, she extolled the effort of the author and cited his determination to overcome the challenges that beset him in the course of finishing the book.

Readings from the novel rendered in such meaningful fashion by James Fajarito of Colegio de San Juan de Letran, Rudy De Guzman of SAS and Leslie S. Manalo, chairperson of the Department of Languages and Communication, contributed greatly to the dramatic impact that the event had exuded.

Published by HAU, the novel Sea of Discord touches the ticklish issue of the rightful ownership of the West Philippine Sea and serves as a commentary to the socio-political problems that continue to haunt the Philippine society. It was written by Dr. Edgar R. Delalamon who is a faculty member of the SAS under the Department of Languages and Communication.
