Women’s group joins women’s march in Guagua town

GUAGUA — Various women’s groups here on Thursday joined the town-wide march here in celebratio­n of the Women’s Month and protest against any form of Violence Against Women and Children ( VAWC) .

Women’s group like the Solo Parents Federation of Guagua and the Soroptimis­t Internatio­nal of Guagua joined other women sector groups here in marching all across town yesterday morning in celebratio­n of Women’s Month.

The groups also attended a forum on Republic Act No. 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004).

Tess Guanzon of Soroptimis­t Internatio­nal of Guagua said that their group is against all forms of violence against women adding that their group aims to rather empower women and advance the cause of women from all sectors.

This 2018, the National Women’s Month Celebratio­n revolve around the theme, “We Make Change Work for Women,” while Guagua town has adopted the theme “Press for Progress.”

Proclamati­on No. 227 series of 1988 provides for the observance of the month of March as Women’s Role in History month while Republic Act 6949 series of 1990 declares March 8 of every year as National Women’s Day.

Also, Proclamati­on No. 224 series of 1998 declares the first week of March as Women’s Week and March 8 as Women’s Rights and Internatio­nal Peace Day. Women’s Month has been celebrated throughout the month of March since 1988.
