2 FRUITFUL YEARS AFTER THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE K TO 12 PROGRAM

- JHONETTE CALIDA SERRANO

This year, the first batch of Senior High Schools students will finally graduate. It has been two years since the government, in leadership of the Department of Education (DepEd), has implemented the K to 12 Program. At last, after two years of hard work, we can say that the students as well as the teachers will be able to harvest the valuable fruits of their labor.

As for the students, their additional two years in high school, which was brought about by the K to 12 Program, have definitely made their learning more holistic and tailored-fit to the field or profession that they want to pursue in the future. The K to 12 Program has made their more focused on their choices and decision on what track to pursue and master, based on their skills, personality and capabilities. Moreover, being K to 12 graduates, they can already decide to work ahead after they graduate— locally or even abroad. As the DepEd would say, K to 12 graduates are “work-ready.”

As for the teachers, although most of them have experienced hardships and struggles at first because of the implementation of the K to 12, they could now see the benefits and positive effects of that this Program has promised. Most importantly, they are now more adjusted in their ways of teaching. They too have benefitted from this program since they are even more capable to teach their craft and share their wisdom on their particular fields of expertise. These two-year’s worth of teaching has made them greater educators.

Two years have already passed and even if there were many challenges that the students and the teachers have had to hurdle to get to this point, we can say that it is all it. All the time and effort that the students and teachers had to endure and exert will now all come into fruition. After all, the two years that passed are not wasted years, but are rather fruitful ones. These additional two years are worth of knowledge, experience and learning, which will make every Senior High School graduate more capable of building a brighter future for themselves and for the country.

For the parents, the government and the members of the Filipino community, we should all be proud of our Senior High School students and teachers for what they have achieved. We should give them our warmest congratulations for being able to surpass everything all for the love of education and learning. We should all be proud that our educational system is now at par to the standards of other international countries. We are now in the same level as them and we will not be left behind anymore. Now, we can always look forward for a brighter future for our people, especially for the younger generation, and our country. All thanks to the K to 12 Program.
