EdSa urges Fernandinos to be fire cautious
Observing Fire Prevention Month this March, Santiago manifested support to the Bureau of Fire Protection’s campaign against fire as they kicked off this year’s celebration with the theme “Ligtas na Pilipinas ang ating hangad, pag-iingat sa sunog sa sarili ipatupad.”
“It is very important that we know how to prevent fire particularly in homes. It is also essential to ask for help from authorities in case of fire,” the city mayor said.
For his part, City Fire Marshal Chief Inspector Roderick Marquez said that most number of fire incidents occur in March when the hot dry season begins.
“Here in the Philippines, fires occur mostly during March because of extreme heat. Most of the time, the cause of fire is leaking LPG tanks,” he added.

For the drawing contest, the winners were Erica Lady Ceira De Ocera of San Fernando Elementary School (first Place), Jannika Sabile of Nuestra Senora Del Pilar (second Place) and Jeremieh Herrera of Sindalan Elementary School (third Place).
Cathlene Nunag of ICT High School won first place in the poster making contest. The runners up were Jasmine Dungca of Lyndale Academy (second place) and Judge Edwin Laxamana of Sindalan High School (third Place).
For the essay writing contest, the first place award was given to Frances Gail Mendoza of ICT High School while the second and third place awards were given to Estrelle Marinas of Lyndale Academy and Ella Mae Lintag of San Isidro Integrated School.
Other lined up activities for this month include the Fire Olympics, Berong Bumbero sa Paaralan, intensified Firetruck Visibility, Barangay Ugnayan and Kiddie Fire Marshal.
