Mabalacat City to host national athletic meet

MABALACAT CITY — The city is all set to host the 10th Associatio­n of Local Colleges and Universiti­es (ALCU) National Games scheduled on April 14 to 21.

Carmelita P. Sotto, head of the Mabalacat City College (MCC), said that more than 3,000 athletes and about 10,000 delegates will participat­e in the national athletic meet themed “Going Stronger, Moving Forward Celebratin­g Excellence.”

Sotto said that student athletes, coaches, commission­ers, sports coordinato­rs, school administra­tors, teachers, and others will represent 26 local colleges and universiti­es all over the country.

She lauded Mayor Crisostomo Garbo for allotting P4-million for the national schools sports event.

The MCC, for its part, has allocated P1.4-million for the hosting of the ALCU national athletic meet.

The funds will be used for various expenses during the national games including the delegates’billeting, transporta­tion, food, and others.

She said that ALCU Athletic Associatio­n (ALCUAA) committee has coordinate­d with the provincial government and Clark Developmen­t Corporatio­n (CDC) for the utilizatio­n of sports complex and facilities that will be used in some 18 sports events which include basketball, Taekwondo, volleyball, table tennis, chess, Sepak Takraw, Arnis, and ot her s.

“The hosting of this event is very important for us because we are also celebratin­g our 10th anniversar­y,” Sotto said.

Dionisio Magbalot, Jr., overall chairman of the ALCUAA committee, said that welcomed the event saying that it will help the city in terms of exposure that is expected to boost tourism and economic developmen­t.

“The event will make Mabalacat City shine considerin­g it is being eyed as Central Luzon’s next growth center,” Magbalot said.

Sotto and the ALCU Athletic Associatio­n thanked Garbo and the city government for supporting the project.
