THE TEACHER’S WISH

-

LIZA T. TAPNIO

Everyone has his or her greatest desire. Normally, each individual hopes for favorable situations. No one likes to be put in boiling water. Even teachers have their own wish. Most of the time, what they wish for is not for themselves but for their students.

Whenever I pray to the Lord, I always express my gratitude to Him for giving me enough patience to deal with the last, the least and the lost. Every time I meet them in the classroom, my patience is always being tested. I am trialed by their laziness anytime I ask them to complete their work. I am almost pissed off whenever I hear unnecessary noise they create for they do not want to perform. Even you keep on reminding these typical students; it seems that you are always talking to the wall. When will they realize how significant the learning I communicate with them in the classroom? When will they put in their system the discipline I want to instill to them for I believe this will be the key to their success? These are my hopes for them as their mentor.

Before I go to bed, I keep on talking to God and thank Him for giving me sufficient strength to fulfill all my duties and responsibilities as an employee of the school. Without strength, I cannot see myself completing all the clerical works the Department of Education have entrusted to me and to the other educators. The non-stop reports the division, through the principals, which we submit are adding to the heavy load I am carrying and others are carrying. When will the department realize that the many documents teachers are preparing do not in any way uplift the performances of the students? When will the department ask teachers to just focus in nurturing the minds and hearts of the learners which I think will help in bringing quality education? These are my hopes for myself and for my co-teachers so that we can really feel the true essence of becoming an educator. Moreover, we can definitely fulfill the promise in assisting the Department of Education in carrying out its vision and mission that will have greater benefits to the learners.
