AC students to spend more productive summer with SPES

-

ANGELES CITY- A total of 274 students from different schools here were employed by the city government under the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) through the Public Employment Services Office (PESO).

According to Maria Rosa Teodora L. Basilio, PESO officer-in-charge, the SPES is a program of the government that aims to give young Angeleños, especially the indigent students, a more productive summer vacation by providing them with employment opportunities.

The PESO manager said that the program is open to students in Angeles City with ages 15 to 25 years old and with good scholastic performance.

The student beneficiaries will be assigned in various offices of the city government and barangays where each will receive P9,080 for their 20 days of work.

Sixty percent of their salary will be funded by the LGU while the remaining 40 percent will be allotted by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

“This program has been running for decades now and its main thrust is to provide underprivileged students of the city with a source of income that will help them save money for the next academic year,” said Basilio.

Mandated by Republic Act (RA) 7323 and as amended by RA 9547, SPES aims to make student’s vacation meaningful and productive, make students earn money to pursue their education, and to exercise and enhance the employability of the youth.

For his part, Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan guaranteed the continued support of the local government in the programs that help provide assistance and employment to the youth of the city.

“The students are the future pillars of the community and with the continued implementation of the program, we are engaging them to experience real life working scenario and public service as early as now,” said Pamintuan.
