CITY, Bataan — Money is not an issue in achieving a general weighted average (GWA) of 1.07 and leading the scholars from 11 municipalities and one city of Bataan.

This is according to Jana Marielle Cruz from Orion town who was hailed as the overall top one of Iskolar ng Bataan during the Top 30 Scholars Per Municipality awarding ceremony held at the Bataan People’s Center, Balanga City.

Cruz is a fourth year BS Computer Science student of Tomas del Rosario College who was awarded five times for being included in the top 30 scholars in her municipality.

Aside from the P5,000 cash incentive from the scholarship program, Cruz received an additional of P5,000 for ranking first in her municipality plus another P5,000 for being the top scholar in the province.

“Iskolar ng Bataan helped me and my family in our savings and expenses. Aside from that, it’s a boost for my self confidence because it made my family proud that I am included in the top 30 especially that I ranked first in the province,” Cruz said.

The awarding ceremony was led by Vice Governor Ma. Cristina Garcia, 2ndDistrict Representative Jose Enrique Garcia III and the Iskolar ng Bataan Committee.

“To achieve your goals, you must apply discipline and consistency in doing good things,” Rep.Garcia said to about 360 students who were awarded.

Headed by Governor Albert Raymond Garcia, the Iskolar ng Bataan scholarship program provides educational assistance to Bataeño college students in pursuit for academic excellence. —Mar Jay S. Delas Alas/PIA-3
