THE VALUE OF NUMBERS

-

EDNA DE JESUS-FERNANDO

Every person has certain inclinations or preferences. Just like the subjects in school, it doesn’t mean that if the student is good in English, he or she is also excellent in Math and the rest of all the subjects. Though of course we understand that there are individual differences, a person has a particular interests above the rest of the skills. While there are people into literature, there are those who are geniuses in numbers

Numbers. Those who are poor in Mathematics somehow hate them. More so when numbers and letters are combined in a Mathematical problem, the more it gets complicated. But, numbers are numbers. They represent a particular count of objects and measurements. Without them, we are all in confusion and uncertainties.

In the preparatory stage of children for school, they are being taught how to count. Sooner then, they are taught of the basics of Math or the Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division. It gets tougher afterwards most especially when word problems get involved.

In college, one of the courses that focus on numbers is Accountancy. It usually deals with financial accounts, keeping records and balance. As a person gets old, it is indeed necessary to balance finances to achieve financial stability and professional fulfilment.

Numbers, just like letters are very important in our daily life. Without numbers, we cannot measure the days. We may not know our age. We may not know if things around us are equal or balance and most especially, we will not know if everybody gets his or her fair share.

In conclusion, numbers give certainty. Every individual must value their worth especially on what these numbers represent. They may be just numbers, but they contribute a lot in this world of gamble and trade.
