T he Philippines is hosting for the first time the Aeromart Summit, an international business convention for aerospace; maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO); and airport infrastructure industries on June 4 to 6 at the Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga.

Department of Trade & Industry (DTI) Secretary and Board of Investments (BOI) Chairman Ramon Lopez during the Press Launch of the summit said “the Philippine hosting of the premier aerospace event is an opportune time to enhance awareness on the world-class capabilities of the local aerospace industry”.

“The Philippine aerospace industry has chartered significant growth in the last few years and we see this emerging industry ready to compete in the global market. We see the Philippines participating more not only in the global supply chain of aircraft manufacturing but also in the maintenance of these aircrafts,” he noted.

“This hosting of the Aeromart Clark therefore aims to launch the local aerospace industry on a wider scale and create greater awareness of our industry as a recognized partner in MRO and aerostructures manufacturing in the Asia-Pacific region. Not many people know that Philippine-based companies currently produce parts for major aerospace manufacturers like French company Airbus and US-based Boeing,” he added.

The country’s exports of aerospace products have steadily increased in recent years. The industry has recorded an impressive compounded annual growth rate of 42 percent over the 2012-2016 period. Europe and the Americas are the biggest export destinations, at 45.8 percent and 40.8 percent share to total exports of aerospace parts in 2016, respectively. Asia Pacific accounts for 12.8 percent share.

Exports of aerospace parts include OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing) parts such as flight control actuation systems, interiors, galleys and equipment, panels, and lavatories for the global commercial aircraft industry. Tier 1 OEMs in the Philippines include Moog Controls Corp. (flight control actuation systems), B/ E Aerospace (interiors, galleys and equipment, lavatories), and JAMCO (honeycomb panels for interior fit-outs).

“The growth of the aerospace industry will mean more export earnings for the country and more quality jobs for Filipinos particularly for the country’s graduates of engineering and aviation-related courses. We will take advantage of the event as an opportunity to create traction for our vison to be a recognized partner in MRO and aerostructures manufacturing in the Asia-Pacific region,” he said adding that the Aerospace Industry Roadmap projects export revenues of up to US$ 2.573 billion by 2022.

The Aeromart Summit aims to promote the Philippine capabilities in aerospace parts manufacturing, aircraft MRO, and aviation trainings. It is also expected to maximize the investment and outsourcing opportunities in the Philippines, especially in Clark for aerospace and aviation by serving as the platform to expand the reach of the local aerospace industry players through businessto-business meetings.

Hundreds of aerospace and aviation industry suppliers, sub-contractors, exhibitors with selling capabilities or services in sales, marketing, business development, and technical promotion as well as buyers, contractors, decision makers seeking commodities or capabilities for the supply chain, procurement, purchasing, engineering, fabrication, and research & development are expected to participate in the event.

On the first day of the three-day event (June 4), there will be a Plenary Conference to discuss an overview and prospects of the Philippine aerospace industry; original equipment manufacturers and aerospace supplier companies will also present about their operations and the opportunities or how to do business with them in the aerospace global value chain (GVC); there will also be presentations and panel discussions about the Philippines as a strategic market for aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO).

The second and third days (June 5 to 6) meanwhile will have business matching activities and workshops and business conventions at the ASEAN Convention Center, also in Clark. The business meetings offer all participants the opportunity to identify and request meetings with relevant contacts prior to the business convention while the workshops and business conventions offer must-attend conferences on various topics related to the market as well as promotion of specific products, services and technologies. Interested attendees to the Aeromart Summit should sign up and register at www.Philippines.bciaerospace.com.

The Philippine hosting of the Summit is made possible by the BOI, the country’s lead industry development and investments promotion arm, in cooperation with various government agencies, industry associations and players.
