Money is not an issue in achieving a general weighted average (GWA) of 1.07 and leading the scholars from 11 municipalities and one city of Bataan.

This is according to Jana Marielle Cruz from Orion town who was hailed as the overall top one of Iskolar ng Bataan during the Top 30 Scholars Per Municipality awarding ceremony held at the Bataan People’s Center, Balanga City.

Cruz is a fourth year BS Computer Science student of Tomas del Rosario College who was awarded five times for being included in the top 30 scholars in her municipality.

Aside from the P5,000 cash incentive from the scholarship program, Cruz received an additional of P5,000 for ranking first in her municipality plus another P5,000 for being the top scholar in the province.

“Iskolar ng Bataan helped me and my family in our savings and expenses. Aside from that, it’s a boost for my self confidence because it made my family proud that I am included in the top 30 especially that I ranked first in the province,” Cruz said.

The awarding ceremony was led by Vice Governor Ma. Cristina Garcia, 2nd District Representative Jose Enrique Garcia III and the Iskolar ng Bataan Committee.

“To achieve your goals, you must apply discipline and consistency in doing good things,” Garcia said to about 360 students who were awarded.

Headed by Governor Albert Raymond Garcia, the Iskolar ng Bataan scholarship program provides educational assistance to Bataeño college students in pursuit for academic excellence.

At the end of every semester of the academic year, Iskolar ng Bataan recognizes the top 30 students with the highest GWA per municipality and the city by awarding them certificates and P5,000 cash incentive. ANGELES CITY---Sibul Ning Aeta Foundation Inc. (Sibul) has taken another step on preserving watershed, with the collaboration of writers, to launch the children’s book titled “Water, Trees, and Me”’ on June in public and private schools around Pampanga.

According to Adrian Carreon, one of the writers, as early as young age, a child has to be disciplined and to be educated on the significance of preserving water sources that can turn out to a crisis, which is happening now on Sapang Bato and Margot. The book is simplified for the children to easily understand the problem and the solution to the water crisis.

The Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (ACDRRMC) has declared a state of calamity on two villages, Sapangbato and Margot, due to the shortage of water last February 9, 2018.

“I am now on the stage of making copies of sir Abong. May mga tatanda ngayon na bata with the same mentality of Abong Tayag and the rest of the sibul. Sila ngayon yung totoong Sibul ng Sibul,” Carreon emphasized.

Carreon said the book printing is funded by Sibul and it is a part of the now ongoing long-term sustainable project of Sibul on preserving watershed in Pampanga.

The story revolves around “A central character who sees the neighbors, the [tree] planters family and the [tree] cutters family” said Carreon. And “There is another character, Mr. Urban, he is a city developer. He’s not an evil person” he added. “But he is [an] opportunistic”

What will happen in the story is that the Mr. Urban will corrupt the tree cutters family and tree planters family with his greed. To construct his planned buildings, he will corrupt the tree cutters family to simultaneously cut down all the trees. The consequence of the greed is going to flood the city, he added.

Sibul is a non-profit organization registered under Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) it has aimed to assist indigenous communities and has been known a campaigner for rehabilitating forest trees and watershed preservations.
