Lorenzana hopeful on passage of veteran pension increase bill
BALANGA CITY, Bataan— Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana is hopeful that Congress will pass the bill that seeks to increase the monthly pension of veterans and their families.
During the recent Parangal sa mga Beterano, Lorenzana expressed his confidence that monthly pension of World War II (WWII) heroes would increase from P5,000 to P20,000.
“Once Congress approves the proposal to increase the monthly pension, I am very sure that President Duterte will sign it immediately since he cares for the welfare of our veterans,” the official said.
That bill is authored in the lower house by Bataan First District Representative Geraldine Roman and also covers Korean War veterans.
Lorenzana furthered that President Duterte has committed to improve the services of the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City by allotting P15 million for monthly medication subsidy of the retired and active soldiers.
Meanwhile, Bataan Governor Albert Raymond Garcia paid tribute to the WWII veterans during the event highlighting their unparalleled contributions to the country.
“We are all here every year to honor our veterans who we owe our independence. They have sacrificed and dedicated their lives for our nation so we could enjoy the freedom that we are embracing today,” Garcia stressed.
