PARENTAL ASSISTANCE AND INVOLVEMENT TO INCREASE THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCES OF THE STUDENTS
JENIFER V. MALLARI
Parents’involvement in school activities and programs is very vital for the improving the system of the school. Hence, promoting the participation of family is one of the challenges that education is facing in the Philippines.
Many parents as well as guardians give their trust to the school to the extent that they forget their roles in giving full attention and support. This problem about open communication with their parents may somehow be lessened by means of the Parents and Teachers Association. This organization was organized so that it would be the bridge between the parents and teachers as regards to the performance of their children in terms of academic performance, behavior and co-curricular activities.
However these objectives may not be acceptable to other parents. Others find it wasting of time. Only few parents attend the meetings and assembly. There are parents who have no time to attend parents and teachers’association meetings, not to talk of checking their children’s notebooks, create time to monitor their reading habits nor visiting the school occasionally to inquire from the teachers about their children’s performance.
A lot of children are no longer emotionally attached to their parents. In some homes, both parents leave home early and come back late. The school and the parents should work together for the benefit of the students.
When the parents actively involved in the school performances of their children, the more their children gain confidence and somehow show interest in their studies. This opens the concept that parental involvement in the school affair imposed for achieving the good performances of the students.
