Fresh grads’guide in acing job interviews

-

Real talk. Every year, millions of graduates along with current workers send out resumes to organizations with only a fraction being eligible to make it through the dreaded job interview. We may be successful in sugar-coating information in our profiles, but not this time. Nope.

So are you making the cut? What’s keeping you from smashing that interview?

Let’s check out the best reminders from the experts:

1. Do your research. Hello internet! It’s nice not to overestimate your knowledge about the group you’re aiming to join. Being a patron of their services nor products may not be good enough. It’s like claiming you’re qualified to join Google just because you use it every day.

Check out their website. “About us” sums up what an outsider (which you are now) needs to know. And go beyond if you can.

2. Master the FAQs. There are classic questions which have stood the test of time. Anticipate them like you do with the NBA Playoffs results or with your crush’s Instagram stories.

“Why should we hire you? What do you think are your weakness and strengths? How do you see your career five to ten years from now?”

Preparing for these breeds familiarity, familiarity boosts your confidence, and when you are confident, your likeability increases as well.

3. Dress to kill (as my former manager always said). Whether we like it or not, science proves that the world is undeniably attracted to better packaging. Yes it’s not a validation of anyone’s character and competence but it helps a lot.

Remember, colors black, white and blue convey leadership and power, while Pastel colors suit artistic roles as they convey creativity. More so, there’s no harm in sticking into classi cs.

4. Clean up your Social Media Profile. Delete the twerks, budots, the drunk-dancing moves and other stuff that may stain your professional impression and branding. Again, this is part of your over-all packaging. (And create your LinkedIn, p l ease)

5. Rule of tongue: When in doubt Ask. Unlike the common notion, a job interview should never be a one-street way, as they say. Ask about the company’s culture, the department you’ll be in should you make it, the trainings, the expectations from new hires and other stuff.

You may get indirect or vague answers but you can assess it from there if you really want to join them or not.

After you’ve sweat it out, there will be recruiters who will be polite enough to give you feedback and there will be those who will communicate “We’re sorry” with a deadly silence.

But should you not make it this time. Don’t fret. It’s okay. Like in other relationships, there’s always a good reason why it was never meant to be. Move forward, be primed and ready to slay your next dragons.

LABOR groups were up and arms after Malacañang recently announced that President Rodrigo Duterte will not issue an Executive Order (EO) to end contractualization.

Instead, the President will certify the measure as a priority bill.

However, due to the super majority in the Congress, it looks unfavorable to the labor sector.

This will further dwindle the hope of the contractual workers of getting the security of tenure bill through the Congress.
