21ST CENTURY LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
In the field of education, the classroom is one of the important factors to make teaching-learning process effectively. It should be conducive to learning at all times. It is said to be the second home of every learners.
A learner-centered learning environment should be provided where students can learn by themselves through their collaborative efforts in creating new concepts. This can help to lessen or eliminate traditional teaching practices and will give way to the 21st century teaching approach that will develop the skills and competencies of every 21st century learners.
The teaching approach in the 21st century learning environment should be applied to meet the learning needs of every learner. These teaching approach are as follows but not limited to the following:
PROJECT - BASED LEARNING
This approach will enable the learners to develop their critical thinking skills. It will provide the learners the chance to practice decision-making by themselves. It used problem-solving activities where the learners find possible solutions to the best ways of their abilities. And lastly, it also provides the learners to develop their socioemotional skills as they will enable to improve their interpersonal effectiveness.
COLLABORATIVE OR GROUPED ACTIVITIES
This approach helps the learners to work with their peers with collaboration. By sharing their ideas to one another they will able to create new concepts towards learners’learning outcomes. The communication skills of the learners will also develop as they are working together. The collaboration of their ideas helps them to realize that they can learn from one to another.
INTEGRATION OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY
The teaching – learning process nowadays made easy by technology integration. This approach applies the use of internet, computers and other devices learning practices.
As modern days come along, teachers and other factors affect the teaching-learning process should also be modernized.
Teaching is a dynamic profession. It evolves from time to time. The teaching needs and the learning needs change. Every education stakeholders should be aware of these changes to cope with the 21st century learners.
The learning environment is one of the keys to make the teaching-learning process be efficient and effective. It should be enhanced and improved continuously simply because the only constant in this world is change. It keeps on changing from time to time as to education is a life-long process.
