MORAL VALUES IN STUDENTS’ LIFE

- SHIELA MARIE S. REYES

Values are worthy ideals that one follows to distinguish the right from the wrong. These ideals or virtues are considered worthy in building up an admirable character of a person. Students are the country’s future and the country depends upon the moral values imparted to them during their student’s life. Virtuous lessons should be taught among students in schools.

Students have an immense power to observe everything around them with keenness and their feelings are deep-rooted. They usually observe their parents are and what do at home and their teachers as well regarded as their second parents. Aside from the lessons imparted, teachers have the utmost duty to teach good lessons and in most cases people blame the parents and teachers of the child’s unwanted behaviour.

Students usually lie for whatever reasons they have. Sometimes they assert their ways and wit just to get what they want in any means achieved. They do the unbecoming activities and often they deny. Having said and done, they should be taught to differentiate the bad from good behaviours and be aware of the merits and consequences of their actions. Schools are the important place for these morals to learn and carry out these precepts because students usually copy fast their teachers. So as second parents, teachers should always behave properly and be exemplar to their students.

Even the students from refined families sometimes lose their good values if the school environment is not proper. However, if the child sees his teachers display the good behaviour, he will follow some of their virtues. Textbook stories are merely more on symbolical to students, but what really are more influential are the commendable life lessons imparted to students and the traits and characters of his teachers. These directly influence the students to grow rightfully in his being.

Teachers are the source of inspiration for students. Teachers play a vital role in molding the character of every student that may come his/her way. They should inculcate values and teach the golden rules that will guide them with regard to appropriate behaviour inside and outside of the school. Likewise, it would not be complete for an exchange of knowledge to transpire if there is an absence of good values to follow. Student life come great responsibilities. The teaching of Values is very important because to the students this is where right discipline begins to guide his life. “Teach by heart, not by mind”, sometimes it is necessary for one to hear what his heart says and not just listen to what his mind dictates. It is never too late to start what is right and be living in a world full of love and just.
