INFECT TO EFFECT
The effect of the teacher is eternal; you’ll never know when his/her influence stops. This statement is so accurate that as a teacher, I myself do not know when and where my influence over my students will stop. Over the years, I have this fulfillment in myself whenever I looked back on how my students started in school. They cannot read, count, and even say words. It is worth rewarding and self fulfilling seeing them the success they had now. However, the journey to that success is not that easy, for some teachers who are reading this article right now, I am hoping that you can get insights and ideas why I entitled this article “Infect to Effect.”
In medical terms, infection is the invasion of organisms into different body tissues that causes harm and sickness. Similarly in our teaching profession, we, as a teacher need to infect those students around us to make them effective. Ironic as it may seem, these two thoughts are in opposition. Infection causes the body to deteriorate while infecting the learners causes them to thrive. How can we infect to effect? For now we cannot tell how far we can go while these students are under our care. Just focus on the daily basis, one day at a time. Perform your job as a teacher, teach diligently, extend hours in remediation and in the exigencies of the service. Teachers are known to give extra efforts which resulted to the betterment of the clientele. Furthermore, we can call these acts as ‘’positive infections’’, infecting the human mind to be productive, to excel within themselves, and be an independent learner.
If infection is for the body to make it weak, contradictory to this is to infect our students of the basic education they need to create a lasting and lifetime effect, and in time that self fulfillment can be felt. As appropriate medicine can cure infection, the same is true in teaching. Infect our students with learning and competencies that will make them a better individual. The effect then is worth rewarding when you see them the success they are reaping knowing that you had a part in shaping their lives.
