Ready for Monday

-

IT’S the weekend, just one day before the Barangay and SK elections. By this time we already have to have a list of candidates we will be voting into position.

Let us remind everyone that the barangay is the smallest unit of governance in our country, and this is where we bring the issues that most affect our homes — whether it be road repairs or misunderstandings with our neighbors, immediate relief for protection especially for battered women and children, and other similar concerns.

In short, the barangay should not be overlooked, and choosing the candidates should be like we were choosing candidates for national and local elections. In fact, since the concerns are very close to home, we should be even more fastidious in going through the list and making our choices.

For adults above 30, you only need to vote for one barangay chairman and seven barangay councilors or kagawads.

With the Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act of 2015, there will be two groups voting for their SK candidates.

The young aged 15-18, who are registered, and those aged 19-30. Meaning, adult voters aged 19-30 have to choose two sets of officers. One for the barangay made up of a chairman and seven kagawads and one set for SK made up of a chairman and seven kagawads.

That said, let’s all prepare our lists now so we can vote for the best.
