CITY OF SAN FERNANDO— “Work harmonious­ly in line with the city government’s programs and most of all, stay away from trouble.”

Thus said Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago of this city as he encouraged recently new village chiefs during a courtesy call at city hall where the newly elected barangay officials were oriented on policies and guidelines on gover nance.

“As new leaders of your respective villages, you must align your programs and projects with that of the city government similar to how we align our programs with the national and provincial government­s. All these of course, will be according to policies and guidelines set by law and regulating agencies like the Commission on Audit. You will be at the very core of governance so it is important that you work harmonious­ly towards the achievemen­t of our goals and realizatio­n of our vision for San Fernando,” he said.

Santiago stressed that the new village chiefs should stay away from “t r ou bl e.”

“Stay away from trouble. Stay away from corruption. As your local chief executive, I will not tolerate nor will be forgiving of any misconduct in your offices. Remember, our mandate is to serve with all honesty and dedication. Of course, if there is anything you need for viable projects or programs, the city government will support you. BALANGA CITY —

Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP) won first place in the Advocacy Float Parade in line with the Philippine Internatio­nal AIDSCandle­light Memorial 2018 held recently in Balanga City.

Its entry dubbed “MV Awareness” bested 10 other contenders bringing home a certificat­e and Php20,000 cash prize.

In an interview, MAAP President Vice Admiral Eduardo Santos said their students are continuous­ly supporting Human Immunodefi­ciency Virus (HIV)prevention by conducting various activities such as seminars and counseling.

“We support HIV awareness and prevention, and in fact,

and teachers of public and private schools and colleges in the city, current and incoming Fernandino barangay captains, employees of malls and other establishm­ents, and members of Boy Scouts of the Philippine­s and Girl Scouts of the Philippine­s Pampanga chapter.

The NHCP, led by Teodoro Atienza, discussed details of RA 8491 such as design of the national flag, hoisting and display of the national flag, conduct of flag raising ceremony, half-mast, casket, pledge of the flag, flag days, specificat­ions of the national flag, and prohibited acts.

Atienza also discussed the national anthem, national motto, national coat-of-arms, the great seal, and official seals and other heraldic items and devices, which are also enlisted in the said act.

For his part, Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago expressed gladness that while the city highlights the essence of culture through the Pyestang Fernandino 2018, NHCP is reaching out to Fernandino­s about the importance of the national flag and national anthem which also speaks about the Philippine culture and tradition.

“In the city, one of our aims is to teach every Fernandino in the government, academe, business, or any other sector respect the Philippine national flag and anthem because it is also a way of paying respect to what have transpired back in the history through our ancestors and heroes,” he said.
