IMPROVISATION OF IMS, IMPROVING LEARNERS

-

ROSE T. SUBA

With the new curriculum we are facing nowadays the Kto12, in the part of teacherpupil interaction in imparting lessons, instructional materials are very important things.

In the teaching – learning process, Instructional Materials (IMs) are every useful in disseminating and transferring of knowledge from teachers to students or even from students to other students.

The availability of books in school is not enough for the students to learn different knowledge and skills in every learning area. The use of manipulative IMs like a model of circulatory system, respiratory system and the like can make the students visualize the real picture of the lesson and not merely reading and understanding the facts and concepts printed on a book.

The use of improvised and manipulative IMs can develop the active involvement of students themselves can manipulate and analyze the process involve in a particular concept through the use of improvised IMs.

Improvisation of IMs can also hone the teachers and students’creativity and resourcefulness since they do not always have access to the resources needed to conduct science experiments for instance.

Teachers can also help students learn improvisation as an important life skill. Teachers can work with students to come up ways to improvise, forcing students to think critically about the scientific concept underlying the devices. Improvisation is, not most simply stated, the process of making things up on the spot using only the resources at hand.
