Back to school: 5 ways to make it less painful

-

Call me evil but as a guy who graduated years ago, I’m extremely happy whenever the first week of classes arrives. It gives me this insane urge to tease students about going back to the reality of their lives.

Because going back to school after a long summer break is really tough. But to make it easier for the remaining millennials and iGens, I’ve punted away that side of mine and listed ways to make this landing a bit smoother.

1. Start your routine early (Don’t rely on your body clock, at least for now)

You can’t expect to go to bed at around 2:00 am playing ‘ROS’and ‘MOBA’and hear your alarm blaring at 6:30 am.

By this time, you should have started hitting the sack at a reasonable hour and rise up early. This is way better than having to kick off your day with 10 cups of caffeine.

If you’re anything like me, then you probably waste a good hour in the morning trying to find an outfit to wear. Instead, pick your # OOTD or uniform and pack your stuff the night before.

And if you’re the type who’s in relationship with the snooze button, go and set multiple alarms with at least five minutes intervals. (That’s all you’re begging for, right?)

2. Plan your commute

Are you driving, commuting or biking? Buffer some time and expect the worst delays on the road, so you have at least a fighting chance of arriving on time. And make sure you have your gadgets with you and fully charged – there’s nothing worse than running out of battery on your way, or forgetting your headphones and having to listen to your seat neighbour’s conversations in the morning.

3. Map out your schedule and classroom

Try to imagine how long it would take to go from class to class. Particularly if you’re in a bigger school, this will spare you from getting lost or epically barging into the wrong class while coming up with an awkward excuse.

4. Don’t bust your budget

You’re still a student after all. So until you start making your own bucks, make a budget and stick to it.

5. Stay on your professor’s good side

I’m not saying sit in the front and always bring them an apple. (Or maybe, yes) But seriously, just make a good impression, don’t skip class and show up late.

Just remember that your time at school or university really is one of the best times of your life; we can bear out that no matter how much you say you hate it now, you’ll always miss it when it’s over. Over? But you’re just starting again. (Insert evil laugh here)
