The development of knowledge and understanding has been the focus of education. Without learning, people will not become productive and progressive. Accumulation of skills and experiences is vital in improving oneself. By this, educational institutions design their curriculum to make a learner intellectually, practically and socially capable. At the center of every instruction is the well-being of the students.

Aside from honing the cognitive aspects of children, there should be emphasis on the development of their character. Students have different upbringing and cultural backgrounds. This is why theories of multiple intelligences and differentiated instruction are highly recommended. Also, learners are exposed to varieties of information which they need to filter and analyze. The changing times and technological advances alter their behavior and norms. The values that are important in the past may change nowadays because learners live in much different contexts.

Deep awareness, appreciation and love for family, others, environment and God are imperative in molding the character of a student. Valuing of these dimensions must be reflected in the lessons and evaluation procedures. Instruction may include discovering the learner’s self-worth and valuing of respect. By this, learners are able to translate what is learned with its real-life application.
