THE SCHOOL AS THE SECOND HOME

- MAGGIE S. TUBAON

“There is no place like home!”… We often hear this statement and I, for one, personally believe in it. But, we cannot stay at home to enjoy everything that our family provides; It is a fact that we need to go out, mingle with others and find our value, worth and self –identity through interacting with other people. And most importantly, we need to educate ourselves in order to succeed and survive in this world of competition. This is the prime reason why parents send their children to school.. to strengthen their values started at home and equip them with the right attitudes and knowledge and cultivate and discover their inborn capabilities and talents. Parents expect that their children will be taken care of by the loving hands of teachers whom are considered as their “Second parents”. The children must feel that the school is just a place like home with a bigger member of the family. A place like “home”… full of love, surprise and fun. And so we teachers should be what is expected of us. Being a mother, a friend, a mentor, a great motivator to make our pupils bring out the best in them. And this would only be possible If we love our work and we enjoy our chosen vocation. Let us always remember that we the capacity to mold a bright direction for our pupils but we can also ruin their lives depending upon the experience they had when they were still under our care. As our pupils come to school, excitement is seen on their faces and their enter their classroom with “hope” …. Believing that at the end of the day will leave their “second home”… with “pride”.
