POWERFUL PEN

-

WILMA S. POLICARPIO

The thing about the pen is not new to us. This topic is known for many debates until now, it is still in our system, to compare the sword and the pen.

Many of us are still confused between the two. Bragging and poking of opinions to each other. It says in a book I have read that “You can use sword to fight a war but you can use pen to plan a war.”

So, what does it mean? It is pertaining to strength of the mighty pen. It is pointing out that pen supervised the sword. A pen can lead us to success.

Dr. Jose Protacio Rizal is very well known for his peaceful way in attaining our freedom. He used pen as his main weapon. His most influential novel, Noli Me Tangere and its sequel, El Filibusterismo made a big mark in our country and huge impact in every Filipinos’heart.

The massive destruction of foreign colonizers was revealed in the two novels. The two inspired reformist and Filipino to fight for our freedom that was taken away from us. Dr. Jose Rizal proved that pen may not hurt someone in physical unlike sword but it can touch anyone’s heart. A pen cannot fight a war but it can speak and reveal the truth. Pen may not be as sharp as a sword but it can be as poisonous as a snake. It can influence young minds to believe in the wonders of the world. It can alter the pages of history with the account of authentic events. It can lead any course of action with its moving and pressing strength which chronicles every details of any significant events in the course of history.

Pen silently but forcefully trigger minds, urge actions and movement to achieve a meaningful end.

More so, it can even affect the actions and perceptions of anyone through the ideas, opinions and beliefs that one wishes to convey through the writings of a mighty pen.
