ARAYAT Mayor Emmanuel “Bon ” Alejandrino of this town yesterday branded the Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines personnel as the new Katipuneros of the modern times.

Alejandrino, who is a known former insurgent, said that policemen and soldiers have been putting their lives at risk to perform their mandate of ensuring

- the safety and security of the people in the name of true public ser v i ce.

Just like the Katipuneros who fought and sacrificed their lives for the country’s freedom, the policemen and soldiers do not also mind putting their life in danger in their quest to stamp out criminality and lawlessness in their areas, Alejandrino said.

“Our soldiers and policemen are our day and night Katipuneros who put their lives on the line in the name of public service and safety as well as in the fight agai nst cr i mes,,” Alejandrino said.

He also noted of the new challenge imposed to policemen with President Rodrigo Duterte’s implementation of the war against illegal drugs which, he acknowledged, to be receiving criticisms from public.

“There are those who abuse their authority and use President Duterte’s war on illegal drugs irresponsibly. But let not this overshadow the majority of policemen and soldiers who are upright,” he sai d.

With this, Alejandrino urged Arayateños to join the local government and police to help in maintaining the peace and order in their town by reporting dubious activities in their surroundings.

He stressed that Arayeteños and all Filipinos must joined hands in protecting everybody and ensure the safety of others.
