PORAC— Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan chairmen from the 29 barangays of this town took their oath at the Jose Songco Lapid Convention Center here over the weekend.

The oath taking was facilitated by town officials led by Mayor Condralito Dela Cruz with the Second District Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as inducting officer.

Dela Cruz reminded the said officials to do well with their two years in office adding that the administration of President Duterte now has a stricter standard of performance for local government of f i ci al s.

Dela Cruz said that the village officials need to step-up in terms of anti-drug campaigns as well as solid waste management in the barangays. Dela Cruz said that there is no longer any excuse now for village officials not to do their jobs as the Department of Interior and Local Government is instituting measures on how to ensure that each official does his duties and responsibilities.

Each barangay has one chairperson and seven councilmen.

The new set of barangay officials and Sangguniang Kabataan officials, who were elected on May 14, 2018, will assume office on June 30 and serve for two years, instead of three years, based on Republic Act 10952 which reset the village and youth council polls to May 2018 and scheduled the next elections for May 2020.

After, this, the barangay polls would be held every three years again.
