Lubao officials told to help in waste management, peace and order
LUBAO— Lubao mayor Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab told barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials who joined the mass oath taking ceremony at the Saint Augustine Parish Church here to immediately buckle down to work.
Pineda-Cayabyab said that the newly installed officials barely have two years to serve in office.
“Two years is too long a term for corrupt officials but it is too short a term for honest public servants,” Pineda-Cayabyab said, stressing that officials serve as the first line of service for people in the grassroots l evel .
The mass oath taking was also attended by Second District Representative Gloria Macapagal Arroyo who discussed on the duties and responsibilities of the new offici al s.
Pineda-Cayabyab discussed the duties and responsibilities of village captains as well the challenges in addressing the problems faced by the barangays in disaster preparedness and addressing the problems brought about by climate change.
Barangays were encouraged to implement better environment programs like tree planting events and proper waste segregation campaigns to help in battling the effects of climate change.
Pineda-Cayabyab also urged the newly elected officials to make a good start with their term through efficient public service. She said that the best way to win the hearts of the people is to address grassroots problems.
The mass oath-taking serves as the first for the newly elected Sangguniang Kabataan officials after the eight-year hiatus of SK elections due to reconsiderations on the SK Law and mandate. The barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials first attended a thanksgiving mass before being sworn into office by a representative of the Department of Interior and Local Government.
