New barangay, SK execs urged to effect better leadership
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials from the 35 barangays of this capitaL city formally took their oath of office yesterday at the Laus Group Event Cent r e.
Vice Mayor Jimmy Lazatin urged the new leaders to pursue better leadership in their two years in office.
Lazatin encouraged the barangay officials to come up with development plans that will address the different issues and problems of the barangay. He likewise challenged them to make a good start through effective and efficient public service.
He also challenged the SKs to actively perform their mandates stressing that their performance this term will greatly influence how government will further support the Sangguniang Kabataan.
Lazatin said that the new officials have very limited time as they will only serve for two years. He added that for good leaders, two years is a short stint. He added that the work to be done now is to ensure that all officials of the barangay are doing their jobs.
Lazatin also said that SK officials need also to show good performance in terms of their services to the youth sector.
The new set of barangay officials and Sangguniang Kabataan officials, who were elected on May 14, 2018, will assume office on June 30 and serve for two years, instead of three years, based on Republic Act 10952 which reset the village and youth council polls to May 2018 and scheduled the next elections for May 2020.
After, this, the barangay polls would be held every three years again.
