REFLECTION OF A SCHOOL LEADER

- CAZARINA L. DAVID

A successful leadership is characterized by the ability to facilitate and adapt changes. Changes that would bring improvement to the community of people goes through certain processes or stages in order to become a better version of you.

Self-improvement takes time and there are reasons why a certain leader experience great and challenging circumstances. Leaders are immersed in these situations in order to lead people with a heart.

As a School Head I have realized that a leader should have the 3Rs of leadership. 1. Responsive – as we move towards reform in education, one must be responsive to changes. Being responsive also bring togetherness in an organization for this will be an opportunity to share ideas and perspectives, brain storm and communicate.

2. Relationship – good working relationship promote teamwork in an organization. A sense of belongingness in an organization increase the morale of an individual and likely to perform efficiently and better. Although at times an issue may arise, the presence of openness to one another would patch things up. Good working relationship develops respect and the willingness to collaborate with the another

3. Renewed faith – leading a school could be stressful however we can overcome our daily battles through prayer. As a leader we must stay connected with our creator constantly asking for guidance and wisdom in order to fulfill our mission in the organization that we lead.

There is no perfect organization or educational community, however the character of the leader as well as the people he or she leads is very important in order to transform imperfections to opportunities. Leaders especially School Principals have infinite influence to the teachers that is why leading by example is important. Good Leadership is empowering one another in order to promote common good in organization.
