PARENTS AND TEACHERS IN SYMBIOTIC RELATIONSHIP

-

GILSON D. GRANIL

The parent and teacher’s symbiotic relationship play a very important role in the development of children not just in their education, but also in the development of their attitude, confidence, and intelligent quotient. Parents usually work outside their homes or attend to their household chores. They have limited time for their children in molding their character. Because of these needs, teachers provide a very special role to reinforce parents to help their children in school and to cultivate good values and character at the same time. Their role extends beyond the academic; teachers also act as parents to teach respect by showing a good example.

However, the role of teachers are usually limited, they cannot provide cares and education to their students at all time, especially during weekend and vacation. Because of these needs, parents usually take time at night to help their children in their school projects and assignment during the weekend. Parents reinforce confidence to their learning and share special memories and lessons in life to reinforce actual and experiential education. It is a special learning pattern and values formation that they can provide to their children as part of their role and responsibility to show love and care beyond academics.

Therefore this symbiotic relationship of teachers and parents that they provide to these children should continue to ensure that parents, teachers, and children are contributing to a healthy community, education and family system. Even without extensive communication and planning, there is a mutual trust and confidence between parents and teachers to act as partners, to mold and develop the character of the youth are their mutual objectives. If this kind of relationship will continue, the entire community can expect a healthier and stronger foundation of good citizens in the future.

The school is also expected to provide a Parent-Teacher Association or PTA so that they can take time and connection to talk about their views and perspective to reform a plan and discuss some topics as needed for the benefit of their students. For instance, identifying the challenges of students, what additional improvement that should be done or what any other contribution that parents can provide. These are just some of the ways that parents and teachers can improve their relationship for the benefit of ever yone.

The best way to develop the good relationship and to reach the mutual objectives of parent and teachers is to enhance their performance through constant communication and exchange of ideas. It is recommended that parents should talk to teachers once in a while, review the grades, reports or attendance of their children, especially if they saw changes of behavior with their children. At the same time, teachers should also initiate a phone call, email, home visit or any other communication tools to approach parents about the progress of their students.

When all these things are done, surely, no child shall be left behind. Achievements will come out from them naturally.
