CSF names best barangays in solid waste management

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO— The City Government of San Fernando recently conferred awards to barangays here for their exemplary solid waste management practices.

During the 2018 Search for Model Barangays on Ecological Solid Waste Management (ESWM) Awarding of Best Practices held at The Orchidariu­m of The Orchids Garden here, the city

government, through its Environmen­t and Natural Resources Office, and in partnershi­p with Mother Earth Foundation, recognized several barangays and their officials and staff, schools, and homeowner’s associatio­ns, which practiced best ecological solid waste management, which underlines the said agenda.

Barangay Maimpis was named Best Barangay on ESWM for Cluster 1, and also emerged as the Best ESWM Enforcemen­t Program while Barangay Dela Paz Sur won Cluster 2’s Best Barangay on ESWM, including three other awards namely Highest Household Compliance Rate, Best Barangay Program on Plastic Regulation, Best Barangay Council, and Best Barangay Chairman in the person of Captain Orlando Pasion.

Also included in the major awards was the Best Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) for both Clusters 1 and 2 which was handed to barangays Del Rosario and San Juan.

Other winners of respective categories include Most Sustainabl­e Solid Waste Management ProgramSan Isidro; Most Improved Barangay-Sta. Teresita; Best Institutio­nalized ESWM Program-Pulung Bulu; Best Livelihood Program-Alasas; Cleanest BarangayMa­lino; Highest Waste Diversion Rate- Magliman; Best Garbage Collection System-Quebiawan; Most Active Barangay on first Saturday Waterways Cleanup-Del Rosario; Best Barangay Solid Waste Management Committee-Quebiawan; Best Barangay Kagawad- Leonardo de Guzman (San Isidro); and Best Barangay Secretary- Cristina Villanueva (Sta. Ter esi t a) .

Meanwhile, four model homeowners associatio­ns and 21 model schools were also given citations by the city government.
